Frequently asked questions
- Does Sheet Sync work with both Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel?
- Yes. Sheet Sync is available as a Google Workspace add-on for Google Sheets and as a Microsoft Office add-in for Excel. Both support the same core features: bi-directional JIRA sync, JQL queries, bulk import/export, dashboards, and scheduled exports.
- Do I need a JIRA admin or a JIRA plugin installed?
- No JIRA plugin or admin access is required. Sheet Sync connects directly to your JIRA instance using your JIRA username and an API key (or password). As long as you have JIRA access, you can sync data immediately.
- How does bi-directional sync work?
- Sheet Sync lets you pull JIRA issues into your spreadsheet using JQL or saved filters, edit them in the spreadsheet, and push changes back to JIRA in one click. You can also create new JIRA issues directly from spreadsheet rows using the bulk create feature.
- What is JQL Update and how is it different from regular JQL?
- JQL (JIRA Query Language) lets you fetch issues matching specific criteria. JQL Update is an enhanced feature in Sheet Sync that lets you filter issues with JQL and then update those issues' fields — like status, assignee, or custom fields — directly from your spreadsheet in bulk.
- Can I schedule automatic syncs?
- Yes. Sheet Sync supports scheduled exports so your spreadsheet always has fresh JIRA data — hourly, daily, or weekly. This is especially useful for management dashboards and reports that need to stay up to date without manual effort.
- How many JIRA issues can I sync at once?
- The Starter plan supports up to 150 issues per sync/update/create. The Professional and Enterprise plans support unlimited issues. Enterprise users also get parallel high-speed sync for large datasets.
